Aspects

Aspects are the positions of planets relative to each other. The carious aspects strenghten or weaken the planets in a horoscope. Good aspects can bring out the best of both planets while adverse aspects may highlight the negative qualities. There are many aspects depending on the angle between the planets. Given below are the more important of them. The effect of an aspect decreases as the angle between the planets deviates from the specified angle.

Conjunction: Symbol : Same as symbol of Mars without the arrow on top
This aspect occurs when the angle between the two planets is nearly 0. This means that the two planets have nearly the same position in a horoscope. This is generally considered to be a good aspect. The two planets try to blend with each other. Their energies are combined and usually both planets are strengthened.

Sextile: Symbol: An asterisk
This aspect occurs when the angle between the two planets is nearly 60. This aspect means that the two planets harmonise with each other. This aspect symbolises opportunities in life related to the two planets.

Square: Symbol: A square
This aspect occurs when two planets are approximately at an angle of 90 degrees. This aspect has a lot of energy. It is normally a disharmonious aspect resulting in a lot of friction and tension between the two planets. It presents obstacles in the area of life signified by the two planets. However if the energies signified by this aspect are channelled properly (which is admittedly difficult) much good can result.

Trine: Symbol: A triangle
This aspect denotes an angle of 120 degrees between two planets. This is again a harmonious aspect with the two planets blending with each other. There is a lot of ease and comfort signified by this aspect.

Opposition: Symbol: Sort of dumbbell shaped (Two small circles joined by a line)
This is a disharmonious aspect and results in inconsistencies and contradictions in the nature of a person. Thus it presents difficulties which have to be solved.
