Natal Chart

After getting to know something about planets, signs, houses and aspects it is worthwhile to conclude this tutorial learning something about your natal chart. There are innumerous sites that give you your natal chart on a click. You can also get your natal chart made and interpreted on my site by filling up the feedback form. For now, let's concentrate on the different parts of a horoscope.

Usually the natal chart is in the form of a wheel with twelve divisions. Each division signifies a house. The first house is the one to the extreme left starting from the horizontal and extending downwards. The houses are placed clockwise around the chart so that the house above the first house is the twelvth. Each line which divides two houses has some symbol as well as a certain number. The number is the no of degrees and minutes while each symbol represents a sign. The chart being a circle is divided into 360 degrees. Each sign consists of 30 degrees. The number of degrees signifies the number of degrees of the sign. For example consider that the sign Taurus starts in the 12th house and at the horizontal, 20 degrees of the sign are covered. Thus 20 degrees of sign Taurus lies in the 12th sign while the remaining 10 degrees lie in the first house. But even though a majority of the sign Taurus lies in the 12th house, it is said to rule the first house as it rules the portion (horizontal) which signifies the start of the house. Thus the symbol on horizontal will be that of taurus and the number will be 20 degrees and 0 minutes.

The natal chart is a picture of the skies when the child is born and takes his first breath. The horizontal specified above is the eastern horizon, the top half represents the part above the earth i.e the visible sky and the the bottom half the part below. The horizontal to the extreme left signifies the western horizon. Thus if the sun has just risen then in the natal chart it will be in the 12th house; if it has just set, it will be in the sixth house; if its on the point of setting i.e just above the western horizon, it will be in the seventh house. As with the sun all other planets are mapped onto the chart. Remember that there are many different charts; some consider houses to be of equal length, others do not while still others associate a particular house with a particular sign (which is its ruler). However its not yet time to get confused with those things. Thus every planet will lie in a particular sign as well as a particular house. The lines drawn joining the planets through the central part of the chart are the aspects. Each aspect is symbolised by a particular symbol as mentioned in the aspects chapter.

The major factors in anyone's chart are the sun sign, moon sign and the ascendant. The ascendant is the sign on the eastern horizon i.e the ruler of the first house. It has a lot to say about the physical features and also the person's view of the world and the world's view of him. The moon sign affects the emotions of the person while the sunsign denotes his inner self and his individuality as well as his ideals. The other major factor is the ruler of the ascendant . This means the planet which is the ruler of the ascendant sign. For example if the ascendant is Gemini then Mercury will be an important factor in the chart. The placement of Mercury (the sign as well as the house) as well as the aspects it forms with other planets will affect the personality a lot. The aspect between the sun and moon is also an important aspect. Thus there are certain planets in a horoscope which have to be given more precedence than the others and some aspects which are stronger and more dominating than others. All this has to be taken into account while reading a chart. Much of this can be perfected only through experience as astrology has its complete base in statistics and the more charts you read the more statistics you have.

With this we come to the end of this tutorial. If you have any doubts you can contact me through the feedback form and I will try my best to solve your doubts.
